Hello,
I need your help. I have been learning Houdini for the last 7 months and really love it, but my PC is very old (8GB RAM, AMD Phenom II X6 1090T and 1GB GPU) so no fancy sims etc.

I want to build a new PC, invest in some paid Houdini courses, put together a demo reel and start applying for a junior fx artist job.

Will this PC be enough to comfortably finish good courses and make some decent shots?

AMD Ryzen 9 3950X
RTX 3060Ti 8GB
64GB RAM

Is GPU very important? If not, I could go with the previous series (2000 or 1000) and add more RAM (128 in total), or go with 3060Ti and add more RAM later.

Thanks for your help.

if you are using open cl for simulation and rendering in redshift than gpu is more important else you can go budget gpu.

Hi everyone, I'm also trying to build/buy a computer to use it mainly for Houdini, Maya, Zbrush,Photoshop. I'm finishing my degree and I want it to make a demo reel and portfolio, I'm not going to do super huge sims but something that allows me to get a good demo reel adn eventually a job, but not for freelancing right now. I don't know too much about computer architecture so I'm asking if this config would be suitable for the purpose, also any advice you could give it's very much appreciated.

Procesor: Intel Core i9-10900K 3.70 GHz
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z490 AORUS ULTRA G2
RAM: 2x(G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4 3600 PC4-28800 32GB 2x16GB CL17)
Cooling: Nox Hummer H-360 ARGB Kit
ssd: Gigabyte AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD 1TB M.2 3D TLC
hdd: Seagate BarraCuda 3.5" 2TB SATA 3
Graphic card: Asus TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3070 OC 8GB GDDR6
power: Gigabyte GP-P850GM 850W 80 Plus Gold Modular.

This setup is about 3000$ which is as much as I can afford.

Hi guis I am also intend to by a new pc
AMD R9 5900X
64 GB RAM
2TB SSD + 2TB HDD
AMD RX 6800XT 16 GB Ram

My question is, how good or bad AMD RX 6000 work in Houdini for simulation (Vellum, VDB, Pyro etc), and is it worth it to buy RX 6800 XT with 16 GB Ram

My other option is to buy RTX 360TI 12 GB RAM

Could anybody share experience with AMD latest GPU and Houdini
