I just started using an old pc for houdini, I paired it with a potato 2gb GT 710 ddr5 and the performance throught out most 3d software allows me to work with 12 million polygons on the viewport, but for some reason houdini drops from 120 fps to 30 fps around 100k polys and to single digit fps with 1 million polys, according to the profiler the culprit seems to be "Wait on GPU", does anybody have a solution to this?

Maybe 'Wait on GPU' is actually advice for you in this case.

You can turn off Wire-over-shaded drawing mode, which will get you some performance back (Shift+W).
