Can someone explain what is happening here? Is this a glitch or intended? Where are the changes to the attributes being saved? It lets me change values in the attribute spread sheet. The node that I have selected becomes "locked" as soon as I edit a value but it turns green instead of red as shown in the photo. The odd thing is if I delete the node that is locked somehow the change is still there. What is happening? I didn't see anything in the docs about this.

editing values directly in the geometry spreadsheet?

That's a Soft Lock and works like Geometry Delta data in Edit SOP, in other words its additive and topology dependent and I believe only for P data, any other attribute would result in hard Lock (red)
It should not persist when the node is deleted so I assume thats maybe a viewport bug
Im also experiencing other bugs like when Soft Lock done on Edit SOP value keeps accumulating forever with any change on the node but resets to original offset with change on parent node etc.
Personally I have never used this partially due to the fact that it still depends on incoming topology for which you can use Edit SOP
The only thing I'd maybe request is for Edit SOP to store values edited through Spreadsheet to it's Geometry Delta data instead of doing a Soft Lock

evanrudefxThanks for the detailed explanation! You're absolutely right—Soft Lock in the Edit SOP does indeed function in a topology-dependent, additive manner, similar to how Geometry Delta data works. It's tied to point data (P), and any other attributes can trigger a hard lock (red), which is certainly a limitation.

I agree that it shouldn't persist after node deletion, and it seems like there might be a bug causing that to happen. It’s definitely a bit frustrating when the Soft Lock behavior isn't behaving as expected, especially with the value accumulation issue you mentioned. That can really mess with workflow, especially if the node keeps resetting based on parent node changes.
As for your request to have values edited through the Spreadsheet be stored in Geometry Delta data instead of relying on Soft Lock—it's a great idea! It would definitely streamline the process, making it less prone to unexpected behavior and offering more flexibility with how edits are stored.
I personally haven’t used Soft Lock much either, mainly due to the dependency on incoming topology. As you mentioned, the Edit SOP provides a more straightforward way to manage topology-dependent edits.
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, and I hope these issues get sorted out soon!
