HQueue 'paster' process at 100% 4 years, 11 months
Hi, I hope there is someone who can help me out. I'm in the middle of a crunch and HQueue stopped working. If I login on te server that runs HQ then in 'top' it show a process 'paster' at 100%. I've tried to kill the process and do a reboot, but as soon as the machine comes back online the paster process is there. The paster process seems to be directly related to the hqserver because when I stop the server the process is gone, when I start hqserver its back. Do you have any suggestions how I can resolve this? It is ok to lose the current render job. I just want the server to respond and except new jobs. I run Ubuntu 12.04lts on all machines. Can I delete any cache files of some sort? Last night I submitted a job of 6000 frames, 2 output drivers in stereo and due to an mistake on my end all the frames we're rendering black and within 30 -45sec a frame. To me it seems likely that something overrun, like the db? I've tried to rename the database file and create a new one with ./bin/paster setup-app hqserver.ini but it returns: /opt/hqueue/bin/python2.6-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libpython2.6.so.1.0: cannot open shared object file: No Such file or directory If you feel like saving the day, this is your opportunity ;-) -- Cheers, Nick, be Nimble +31 622 4243 94 | www.nicknimble.com | www.facebook.com/nicknimble
[Mantra 12.x] command line -V2+a crashes randomly Mantra on CentOS? 4 years, 12 months
Hi everyone, Have any one here noticed this strange behavior of Mantra 12. and 12.1: on our CentOS 6.2 it crashes in about 5-10% cases at the very start of the rendering just after Mantra launch: stdout: mantra Version 12.1.185 (Compiled on 01/09/13") .. and crash... - this happens only for verbosity level above 2[a] specified by -V option. - this doesn't happen with "ray_property renderer verbose 5" inside ifd file. - this happens in different builds across 12.0 and 12.1 including newest production build 185 I'm testing only production scenes with lots of deep rasters (17+), but not many textures nor geometries. It's completely random, 3 to 10 frames per 117 long sequence always on different machines. It also seems like -V2a works just fine, but -V3a crashes... weird... It might be helpful if any someone else would confirm it. It seems like a scene has to be a real one, with some stuff inside ifds, not just sphere, but I'm not sure of that... also, as I said it's just 5-10% of frames. thanks, skk.
fbx update 4 years, 12 months
Hey, Anyone have any whispers if there is going to be a update to flavor of FBX from Houdini? I would love to go to Unity with it and was trying to get a non-skeleton based animation into the engine and the export was not supporting non-uniform scales on objects. Unity allows animation to come in via its "legacy" mode and I can get that sort of FBX from maya in without a problem. I will try the skel method, which I'm assuming will work, but I was trying to find an easy way to avoid the extra weight of it. -k
sucking dust into a vortex, gas sim 4 years, 12 months
Hey Girls ans Guys.. I am making a gas sim that sucks dust into a vortex and down a magical hole. I have made a volume of vectors in sops that behaves its self and sucks particles into the hole in an elegant way. When i use a gas field vop that samples the sop vector field and adds it to the the velocity it looks cool, the dust/ smoke just swerls around the centre without crunching in as i need it to. I believe the divergence is keeping the gas from compressing or even exiting the sim. If the answer is to change divergence, I have not tyred to mess with divergence yet so i would appreciate pointers on how to tackle that. any ideas would be appreciateed. Robert.

3d Printing and Houdini 5 years
I used Shapeways for a 3D printing project with Houdini exporting a .obj file. To cut costs, try to make walls thin or hollow out your model. You have to allow a hole large enough for the clean-out of material in a hollow model. They have information on their site regarding tolerances and requirements for each of the materials they offer. You will be given a price to print when you upload the model, and you can then make changes and upload a new one if the price is too high. Scale accurately from the outset and you'll save yourself some headaches. My only complaint with them was that they missed their promised ship date, so I wouldn't use them for anything time critical. Houdini Apprentice to UDK 5 years
Houdini 11 had the torque game exporter...that seemed like an easy workflow, though I only played around with it a bit..didn't try to make a game. OT: G+ Houdini community page 5 years
Greetings. Shameless plug... When Google+ Community first became avail, I took the liberty to create an unofficial HoudiniFX page. Would love to have a community of people chat there in additional to the official channel and odForce, for any interested party. :) Unfortunately, I still can't quite figure out what's the difference between Google Community and Google Page and old-fashioned Google+ --- they all seemed more or less the same to my not so social-network brain. Will have to take some time to figure it out after I am done busying. https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/117676462210116366522 Cheers, Alex PS: Anyone from SESI cared to be Moderators?
