meta loop VOPs

I'm not running Houdini right now, so this is from memory, and thus not precise. I often have to pipe the accumulating sum into the metanext, to force the summing code to be before the metanext code in the resultant VEx code. If there is no way to do that directly into the metanext, then I could see putting the metanext into a subnet, and piping the sum into the subnet as well. If you're failing to get a handle before the loop, it could be something else, though. Also, it's important to be sure you're transforming P into the appropriate space for sampling the metaballs. Let me know if this is unhelpful, and I'll fire up Houdini tomorrow, and send you an example. Alternatively, you could send me an example, and I'd be happy to look at it for you. -caleb Sean Feeley wrote:
Hey all. Could anyone explain to me how I should go about using the meta-loop VOPs? I've tried running P into pos on metastart, then handle into metanext. From there I take bool into the initial condition of a while loop that goes back and forth between summing the density from metaimport and iterating through metanext, with the bail set to metanext's conditional. It seems, however, that the metanext op before the loop returns 0, meaning I don't get very into the metas at all. I don't think it's a problem with a bad/poorly referenced bgeo (pointcount works just find and there's definitely metageometry there). What I'm trying to do is envelope a surface in metas, then color the surface by the metas' density sum at the surface point. I looked through the archives, but the only discussion I found mentions using second input on metanext, which I don't have (houdini 6). Any help is much appreciated. -Sean-- -caleb =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Caleb J.
