Thanks for all the advice guys. I got it working again based off Dante's suggestions. I un-installed Houdini, Ensured that the Houdini folder was gone, deleted all remnant Houdini files from my system32 and registry. I Then re-installed to a different folder on a different drive. (I think that could have been the key) That's all :) Thanks again for all your suggestions, Mark -----Original Message----- From: owner-sidefx-houdini-list(a)sidefx.com [mailto:email@example.com] On Behalf Of Ben Simons Sent: Saturday, 31 August 2002 12:47 PM To: sidefx-houdini-list(a)sidefx.com Subject: Re: houdini-startup-crash

It was workingI wasn't going to mention this, as in your case I think it's unrelated, and we've had a few beta's running here which means our bad-experiences are sometimes uncommon, but... We had one case where Houdini5.5 (eg apprentice) would die as soon as it started. The solution was to rename the houdini directory in your home directory. It our case this meant: % mv $HOME/houdini5.5 $HOME/houdini5.5.36 and then houdini would create a new houdini5.5 dir & start ok. (Note you don't have to delete stuff, just rename it. If it doesn't fix things, just rename it back). cheers, ben. __________________________________________________________ Ben Simons Physics Building, A28, VisLab Systems Manager The University of Sydney.
