houdini crash problems Dec. 19, 2002, 7:27 p.m.

Thanks guys, I tried the latest drivers from my cards manufacturer instead and they work fine.
I might go back to the 30.82 reference drivers though to try the softquadro patch, I've heard it can improve Houdini's performance a fair bit.
Cheers.

houdini crash problems Dec. 19, 2002, 2:04 a.m.

Hi,
I wonder if anyone else has the same problem I am getting with a geforce 3 and Houdini and the latest Nvidia drivers ? ( 41.09 )
I've found that when moving an object around in the view port the display of that object can break down and vanish, or just show a triangle face.
Changing the shading style to wireframe and back doesn't seem to help, and eventually Houdini.exe will crash with the following message.
runtime error
abnormal program termination
then…

the instruction at 0x002221af referenced memory at 0x00000030
the memory could not be “read”

and the program closes

BUT On the bright side !!
Using the 30.82 Nvidia drivers seems to solve the problem, at least as far as I've discovered.
I'm glad that I can still use houdini with the older drivers but it would be nice if I could keep the newer ones because they have given improvements in other programs.
I wonder what Nvidia did to the later drivers that are giving me this error ?
(The 40.72 drivers fail with Houdini as well by the way)

I'm running Houdini Apprentice 5.5.208 ( tried the earlier ones and same problem ) on windows XP with the service pack.

Cheers.
