Tab menu not working properly May 8, 2019, 6:12 p.m.
When I've an object in the network pane and I want to add a transform node I'm unable to do so as calling up the tab menu when the cursor is over the pane does not include the manipulate category. If I call the tab menu up while the cursor is over the scence pane I can get the transform node but when it's selected it doesn't appear in the network! I've attached some links to vids. The first is what I'm experiencing and the second is a bit from a tutorial that gave the idea I could do such a thing in the first place. Also, a still of the upper left corner of the scene pane showing the transform thing that's apparently activated but not shown in the network pane.

So I'm stuck somewhat and I want to get this down before moving on. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Rendering realistic darkening of end grain May 2, 2019, 5:59 p.m.
Boxes with corners of finger or dovetail joinery become more distinct when an oil and/or clear coat is applied to the wood as it darkens the end grain increasing the contrast with the regular surface. I'm a noob and I've been trying to find a means to achieve this for quite some time. One of the issues is that while I could assign a darkened version of a procedural material to faces representing the end grain of a part, there's no way to make it match the material being applied to the other sides.
