how to read in a .chan file Sept. 16, 2009, 2:12 p.m.

Hello-

I'm trying to bring in a chan file from maya but I'm pretty new to this houdini stuff.. I've worked out that you have to bring it in via CHOPS but how do I apply it to the camera?

thanks

maya + houdini compatibility July 8, 2009, 11:22 a.m.

Hi-

I've been using maya now for a couple of years and although I like some things about it its dynamic system leaves a lot to be desired.

I'd like to create some fluid effects for an animation Im working on using houdini, the camera and geometry has been created within maya and i'd like the fire i'm creating in houdini to collide with these objects. what would be the best wayto bring the data in from Maya? Would FBX suit these needs? also what is the equivalent shader to useBackground in houdini?

Thanks

Houdini With 3Delight OSX Sept. 23, 2008, 8:21 p.m.

Hello there-

I've just started getting into this Houdini business after using maya for about the last 5 years however my preferred renderer is 3Delight of late and I've been trying to figure out how to get it working within Houdini.

According to your guide (which is great thanks) I set my environmental variable HOUDINI_DEFAULT_RIB_RENDERER to ‘3Delight7.0’ in the terminal with the command ‘export HOUDINI_DEFAULT_RIB_RENDERER=’3Delight7.0'.

Using the shader library provided for houdini by 3Delight i imported that and setup a quick test scene and configured the rendering stuff. I setup a renderman renderer in houdini and changed the command in the out node setup ‘rib1’ to 3Delight and renderdl as the command but everytime i go to render i get a message saying:

Could not complete the rendering job:

Error: Command Exit Code: 127

Any ideas what i've done wrong? Thanks
