Houdini Engine License Jan. 18, 2018, 3:48 a.m.

Can Houdini Indie Engine license be used to render in batch mode Houdini scenes on secondary machine (hbatch)?

Also, how must the licenses be setup for Houdini Engine to work properly? Should all the licenses (Houdini Indie, Mantra, Engine) be installed on primary machine and secondary machine set primary machine as license server?
Or should each license be installed separately on each machine (Indie on primary, Engine on secondary…)?

Rendering Hair in HQueue Error Dec. 5, 2017, 4:25 p.m.


I am trying to render simple hair and it works great inside Houdini render view, however when I send it to HQueue it always fails with error “Error saving geometry for: /obj/sphere_object1_hairgen/RENDER”.

The scene is basically just a sphere with “Add fur” from Hair tools shelf and sent to render.

Any help or tip what might be the issue here?

Hi Marc,

thank you for your help! I checked your videos, nice work on the spider rig and a lot of great tips there.
Polygon groups is a really good workflow idea but they don't really help with locking certain bone weight. Spreadsheet is a very good tool I use a lot in places where I want to select, flood the weights and move on. But again, no good way of weight locking.

Separate weighting threads sounds interesting and I might go that way if nothing else works especially since as you already wrote it is a bit complex solution.

It seems that currently you really have to plan out in advance how you will paint/set capture weights in tricky areas like shoulders where points can be affected by multiple bones in order to avoid constantly going back and correct weights that were already good.
