Hqueue: Limit Number of Clients per Job Jan. 13, 2018, 12:14 p.m.

Since we have a varying amount of clients which are present in our Houdini Farm, we would like to Limit the Number of Clients working a submitted RenderJob via Hqueue.

At our university environment we have the following problem/situation:

Some of the clients will be temporarily unavailable or will come online at some point when a student turns on or off a machine. So we would like to send off a render with all possible machines, and Hqueue should start/stop scheduling if the maximum amount of licenses is hit. Otherwise additional renders would fail because of lack of licenses, or less than available licenses are used. As far as i know almost every other scheduling system stops scheduling jobs when there is no additional license, but I didn't find an option with Hqueue.

Do you have some suggestions how to solve this problem?

Thank you.

Cheers,
Elmar

It´s working now. Thank you so much, Andrew. I didn´t realise that I had to set the parm to the material node and not the cops-node. Have a nice weekend.

Yeah, i tried but unfortunately still not working since the whole parm is evaluating to an empty string as soon as I add the expression. I also tried to append an empty string (“”) to the text, but this also does not trigger an update.
Works, but doesnt update in maya
chs(“../../frontText”)+“”

Does not work in Maya or Houdini - evaluates to an empty string:
chs(“../../frontText”)+0*chs(“../../frontText”)
