There will be another set of videos that will use the paper dart to simulate the throwing of thousands of darts onto a target. Keep you eye out for those videos in a couple of weeks.

This is a 4 part lesson. The first three are for beginner Procedural Modelers, the last will be for beginner and intermediate Houdini artists who want to do simulations. We will use DOPs to throw thousands of darts onto a target and have them only stick if certain criteria, such as velocity and direction, are met.

For beginners: In this video we will start the first of two diversions and create a material for a turn table that fades from opaque in the center to transparent at the edges and also fades the reflection. Made for Houdini beginners that are learning to build materials.

In this video we learn about making object level constraints and the Transform Wrangle in CHOPs.

Many thanks for sharing your efforts on this.

Question: at time = 5:08, what the heck are "raygo menus" where do you get them, what key strokes, what mouse selections, etc... And what is a raygo menu anyway?

A couple of comments for other beginners:

I chose this series as a beginner introduction to Houdini. I have to say I really struggled with this example. It probably is not the best place for beginner step #1. I took a break from it, and jumped over to "BEGINNERS GUIDE TO LEARN 3D - INTERFACE AND NODES" by Alejandro Perez Sanchez (Snowman example). This worked out well, and gave me some experience necessary for understanding the paper dart series. (e.g. I really didn't understand the flag /highlight / yellow surround on different nodes, etc...)

Per my comment above, "Raygo menus" = Radial Menu (from the top of Houdini menu bar...)

I also got stuck with the "Display Group and Attribute List" as shown in Dart Video #1, time: 08:27. My display didn't look anything like that on the video. You have to select the settings "gear" in that little window, and select "points" . I'm still working this stuff, perhaps more to follow.

Thanks to Ari for the series...

Thank you for your comments. In my beginner tutorials I made the assumption that you have already gone through the quick starts. Sorry about that in the future I will make sure to include requirements for the tutorial.

    Thank you again.
