Once 5.4 is out of preview mode, we will do our internal changed to the plugin and launch it as soon as we can. Usually it takes around 1-2 weeks after the Unreal version goes live.

I see there's a commit to the 20.0 branch with 5.4 support:

https://github.com/sideeffects/HoudiniEngineForUnreal/commit/cd3c970a378b232ff1f1571032b0c1a43c577c09 [github.com]

Will the 19.5 version of the plugin also get 5.4 support?

Latest update I've gotten was 5.4 was postponed for tomorrows production build. And will be available on Fridays daily builds, as tomorrow's release didn't give us enough time for testing.

And for 19.5, the fixes will need to be ported over by the team, and will not include binaries for 5.4, and users will need to build it themselves.

Great, thanks for the update. Building the plugin ourselves is fine.

But: I see there hasn't been a production release of Houdini since 19.5.773. But the 19.5 plugin branch has been updated to 19.5.904. Will there be another production release of 19.5? I prefer not to use the Dailys because they don't stay on the launcher for very long and getting my team all using the same Daily has proven difficult in the past.

(In particular I need a version that includes this pull request from me that was accepted:
https://github.com/sideeffects/HoudiniEngineForUnreal/commit/e5135e660fbfd7c8193502d9a7b46ae067678f85 [github.com] )

Hello all, is there a Houd 20.0.688 (or any 20.x.xxx) UE 5.4 plugin? The 5.0 seems pretty straightforward, but I am also dumb as rocks. So perhaps I am not looking in the right place

Thanks in advance fellas !

Hi,

Support for UE5.4 was added in 20.0.689, so can't be retroactively added to a previous build.

See the changelogs [www.sidefx.com]

If you download any daily 20 build - you'll get the 5.4 plugin.
We purposefully removed the 5.4 plugin from the production build - Epic broke a ton of things with 5.4 - and we didn't want to ship a production build with an untested version of the plugin.

@isaac There won't be any new 19.5 production build - once a new version of Houdini is released, we generally stop doing production builds soon after (though we generally try to do a couple extra ones - but rarely more).

What sort of things did they break? Is it possible to tell what sort of problems I should expect from HE in UE5.4?
5.4 fixes game-breaking bugs for us so we _really_ want to upgrade but a broken asset creation pipeline would also put us in quite a pickle so I'd like to get a sense of the risks.

so, as of today there is no way to run houdini engine in unreal 5.4, or to compile it?

I was referring to the 20.0.688 - which didn't have 5.4 (as Epic released 5.4 the day before that production build).

As with every new version of Unreal, getting the plugin code to compile doesn't mean that everything in the plugin remains fully functional.
Epic changes a lot of things internally, which then causes issues and regressions in the plugin, which we then need to fix.

These issues are the reason why we didn't include the 5.4 plugin in 688 - but we fixed all of them a few days after.
The current 5.4 plugin that ships with the 20.0 daily/production build is fully functional.
