Houdini 21.0 Shelf tools

Candle Flame shelf tool

Creates a small scale candle flame and generates a melted candle model.

On this page

This shelf tool sets up a sparse pyro simulation of a small scale candle flame simulation with a transparent source and smoke emitted from the tip of the flame. This shelf tool highlights a simple way to artistically control the look and transparency of a flame post-sim using a mask field.

Important Nodes

candle_model1

The candle_model1 node generates a candle and a wick geometry. These are merged with the flame for viewport visibility and used in the lopnet for rendering.

jitter_pts1

This node spreads out the source points for the bluezone_mask to be larger than the flame source. During simulation, the bluezone_mask encapsulates the entire flame and can give you more control to create transparency and blue hue at the source location.

Learning from this example

To...Do this

Change the overall size of the candle flame

Adjust the Flame Lifespan parameter on the pyrosolver1 node.

Change the size of blue flame

Dive inside the pyrosolver1 node and adjust the Dissipation Rate parameter on the gasdisipate1 node.

Change the shape of smoke

Dive inside the pyrosolver1 node and adjust the Swirl Size parameters in the gasturbulence_for_smoke1 node.
