When a newcomer comes to study Houdini after other editors, they are surprised to find that there is no way to work with edges in Houdini. Then comes the reassurance that they are working in the coolest editor - so it can be endured.
Somewhere on the internet (teams by microsoft), a person calculated that if Houdini had support for edges, the work would be significantly faster.

The vertex is a more "subtle" element of geometry compared to the edge, so one can speak - by analogy about "C++" and "Visual Basic".
Of course, in C++ you can do cooler things, but it takes longer and is harder.

The absence of edges and the presence of only vertices and vertices is absolutely justified if there is an add-on that compensates for the absence of edges.

When I wanted to switch to Maya, I constantly stumbled upon outdated tools - in the end, I concluded that Maya would soon become a dinosaur and everyone would switch to the combination of Unreal Engine + Houdini.

But since Houdini is an old editor, it was reasonable to assume that there would be outdated ideas here that would be difficult to remove because they are part of the core.

I forgot to add - it seems that Houdini was Prizm before, so yes, there may be anachronisms here, but - it is not excluded - that unteal engine - as a newer editor pulls Houdini up with it.

Seriously though, I never really noticed, but I used 3D Studio Max years ago and doing edge operations that weren't simple moves usually screwed geometry up somehow so it quickly fell out of my "modes to use when poly modeling" along with CSG operations thanks to the disasters that liked to create, although that was more temporary.
