Full Version: Where Can I Find MTLX Shader Asset Packs?

I need a whole bunch of pre-made procedural materials that I can use to render a large variety of vehicles - civilian, military, agricultural, industrial, etc. I need enough variety that they don't look like they're all made with the exact same paint, metal and glass.

And I'm surprised to find out that there seems to be almost nothing available.

I know about the built in library, and I know about AMD GPUOpen. Those are great, but together they make up like 300 materials of which perhaps 50 are useful for vehicles. And I know about GreyscaleGorilla, but I can't lock my entire project into such limiting subscription terms.

I also know that the best way to do this is to hire a bunch of shader artists to build out a custom in house library, but I'm unfortunately just not there yet.

So I'm looking for some sort of asset pack that can be good enough for now.

Is there really nothing like that out there? Am I missing something? There are a billion 3D model asset packs you purchase on various websites, but it seems like decent collections of MaterialX procedural materials just don't exist anywhere and everyone's stuck using the same 80 built in and 300 AMD materials.

Honestly the Greyscale Gorilla thing is exactly what I'm looking for, minus the whole subscription thing. I just want to be able to purchase an asset pack and use it like I can for almost everything else.

And just to rub salt on the wound, NVIDIA has over 2000 materials released for Omniverse, which is basically exactly what I'm looking for, but they're all MDL files which is apparently their own extension of the USD standard that Houdini can't read because they went with ILM's mtlx?

So much for USD being the one format to rule them all.

Anyways, any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks.
