i have a lot of problems over the past year or so with houdini instantly crashing. it's usually right after i start it up, and usually not after it's going good (but sometimes). Also, i can't use the built in help, because it will instacrash and take down the instance of houdini that spawned it.
it's awful. I was on a 2022 Rog Flow X13 (with 6850xt xgm egpu)... but it died (and asus said that they don't honor warranties from "unsupported sellers such as Amazon") Now i'm on a rog ally with the same egpu...
i'm starting to think that asus just makes trash computers?
does anybody have a better suggestion or idea than that?

Try reviewing the system requirements under the "Support" menu at the top of this page. Does your computer meet those requirements? If yes, back off on your overclocking, if you are overclocking. Try an independent system test program like Prime95 to evaluate the stability of your current system.

Also, try running without the eGPU.

i will try it without the eGPU. i feel like it's possible that it only happens when it's plugged in...
but yes, it meets the minimum requirements. One thing that is sketchy, RAM is only 16GB (and it's soldered in)... and my SSD is slow and has no DRAM... and the iGPU is allocated 2 GB... windows seems to be using 60GB page file... i wonder if it's due to page faults, some how?
i ordered a good SSD today, so maybe that will help?
It seems like it's probably time to get a better computer. (one with 96 GB of ram, i guess, heh)

So, like, i figured out what circumstances cause a crash (and why it usually happnes right after launch)
Basically, each of my monitors is connected to a different GPU (and i don't think i can change that). So if Houdini spends more than about 30 seconds with one window on one monitor and one window on the other one, it goes down.
If i open it, sometimes the little startup window will open on a different monitor than the main window. that's when it crashes. Same thing with the help card. I would normally move it over to the other monitor, and in about 20 seconds, it goes down..
Again, it's the same thing if i tear off a window from the main window and move it over to the other monitor.
So, i reckon i should make bug report?
