I have been playing around with trying to clean up photogrammetry and AI 3D models.

I am wondering if there is a way I can paint a mask onto a section of geometry, and then have an automated process pick out the best line that connects one end point to the other as a way to force the model into having a hard edge when the edge loops are erratic and splinter in every direction.

I have attempted to try working with the shortest path SOP, but have found the Labs Edge Smooth the best so far for attempting to do this.

Wondering if anyone has any thoughts about other methods this might be possible?
