Hello!

I'm was wondering if there were any advanced character rigging tutorial available out there specially done for Houdini. Don't get confused now…I'm not talking about autorig tutorials, I'm talking about advanced character rigging techniques, to build my own production proof rig.

There are numerous rigging tutorial for Maya available which can be a good help to get the the general concepts(those one for exemple: www.fahrenheitdigital.com [fahrenheitdigital.com]). But, I'd be so glad to have one done especially for Houdini, using all the software as to offer.

I'm sure there are some pretty neat tricks that can be done using Houidini's kick ass tools.

Also, If some people out there have experiences in advanced character rigging in Houdini, I'd really like to have your feedbacks about where Houdini stands compared to Maya in term character rig capabilities.

Thanks!

most of the techniques used in a tutorial for Maya etc can be applied to Houdini…
unfortunately there are just not that many of us out there doing character rigging in Houdini to generate a lot of public information…

for now I'd say just forge ahead and ask if/when you have any trouble or need some feedback…

i would love to see some houdini rigging tutorials

i dont need to know about rigging concepts because i know a few already since i am a maya/xsi animator/rigger

i would just really like to know how to put that stuff into houdini

simple things like
how to connect things
how to measure distances
how to constrain stuff
how to do calculations in different ways
how does houdini handle pivots
what can you do with bones in houdini

and so on

but a 5 hours this is how i rig an advanced character for production video tutorial would be even better.

i am getting into houdini rigging:

and i think its a great package
but support for rigging is close to not existant
the only tutorial i found was from buzz3d and it was houdini 5.5 and barely scratched the surface - still good though as a start

There are many fantastic and in-depth technical rigging, and character rigging tutorials on 3DBuzz created using Houdini 9+. There are many, many hours of great training there. Those tutorials are not free, but if you are serious about rigging in Houdini I doubt there is much left unsaid in the Technical Rigging and Character Rigging series.

You must go to Classrooms - Houdini and enter the video category “My Products” here you will find brief sample clips of the tutorials available.
