I've downloaded Apprentice but have no luck in getting it to run properly. It takes 10 minutes for the app to load. Then it uses 100% of my processor whenever I click on something.
I'm on XP. Both XSI and 3dsmax run just fine on my system.

What kind of graphics card do you have? And give some other system specs please.

I don't have the machine here with me but it's a Vaio laptop and has an nvidia card in it. I don't think that's the problem though. After 20 minutes or so Houdini becomes usable but tends to freeze randomly after using it for a while.
I think it's got to do with accessing localhost. It will eventually happen but take very long. I got firefox 3. I gave all of it firewall permissions so…dunno

unless you can be more specific about your system specs, there's little chance that the developers can help you. Many of us are on xp, and have nvidia and do not experience these problems.
are you using the latest nvidia drivers? which driver?

Are you using a wireless network card? On some other thread a user had a problem with the license manager and turned off the wireless network card and that seemed to solve his issue. Might worth a try.

for the record: Killing the browser immediately after it pops up and searches for localhost solves the problem.

You'll find there's a setting for Help opening @ startup under the Edit menu. If it's giving you problems then I'd just shut it off.
I'm pretty sure this issue is only related to the 9.5 beta.
