Hi Guys,

I've encountered a problem installing Houdini on Solaris 8. I'm trying to install an academic version of houdini on a sunblade 100 with a gfx graphics card. I have installed the opengl stuff and can now get a splash/welcome screen but then the application quits with no error
message.

After doing an ldd -d houdini I get the following error:
<snip>
libICE.so.6 => /usr/openwin/lib/sparcv9/libICE.so.6
libICE.so.6 (SUNWprivate) => (version not found)
libICE.so.6 (SUNWprivate) => (version not found)
/usr/platform/SUNW,Sun-Blade-100/lib/sparcv9/libc_psr.so.1
<snip>

I thought “ok.. i'll just install SUNWprivate” but I can't seem to get the pkg. If anyone can help, I'd really REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks dudes,
dan

Hi Dan,
What's the exact model of the graphics card? Also, are you able to get the command-line version of HOudini working? Instead of “houdini” type “hscript” (without the quotes of course) and see if you get any error messages. It could be a licensing problem. When you installed did you connect to the 'net and get the license automatically?

Cheers,

Hello,
I do have the same Problem under Solaris 9 (Blade 100 - PGX64 Graphic Board).
But my “ldd houdini” prints out no errors - so I have all necessary libraries.
The Command line tools do work - but they claim for the license (coludn't enter the license information because hkey won't start as well)
Please help us

Hello,
I'have just installed an Sun Expert3dlite Frame Buffer.
With this device houdini does start up and i can begin working.
So I guess that the PGX64 doesn't have enough capabilities to display the houdini windows with opengl.
(It has only 8 MB of SGRAM and is only a 2d Accelerator).

Houdini is now running under:
Sun Blade 100
768 MB SDRAM
Expert3dlite
Solaris 9 (without any patches).
