anyone ever notice that the jack in the viewport does not reflect what the object's pivot parameters.

drop a cube down and slide the Pivot back to an edge. ( you can display the pivot only if you have your Objects in list mode and toggle the flag next on.)

if you use the viewport to select the cube, the jack appears right at the centriod of the object not at the pivot location. kinda makes the viewport centric methodology difficult.

also i thought the clean transformations was going to be more like the “freeze” operation in Soft and in Maya. It doesn't handle pivot information at all.

Don't get me wrong i love H5 but there really needs to be a better handling of pivots (need a UI tool), and the freezing of an object's transformations.

there are current work arounds, using nulls to act as the desired pivot location and using the parenting solution to handle the problem.

i'm hoping putting this in the forum it will open some discussion.

Hey there Kenny,

Just in case you didn't know - did you know you can actually see where the object level pivot is?

In the Object's Network Editor, just change this into “Switch to List” view (by hitting “t” key). Just to the right of the Name field, you'll see stuff like D (with blue box), S (with brown box), and O (aka “Origin”) and blah blah blah.
Under the “O” field is the where you can turn on the origin/pivot to see where the pivot point is located in the Viewport.

Be aware, tho, that you should turn this flag on only when needed and then turn it off when you don't. Otherwise, if you turn them all on, you'll get confused at which is which.

Anyhow, hope that helped.

Cheers,
Alex

perhaps i wasn't clear.

i know how to toggle on/off an object's pivot. i was referring how a non-zero pivot for an object does not effect the location of the the jack once you interactively select that object in the viewport.

it should be located to where the pivot is in space. the jack's size should then be scaled based on a bounding box which would include the object's geometry and the pivot's location. this would ensure you would still see the object in question and the jack at the same time.

it is more of a fundamental, how does houdini handle this situation not how do use the interface toggles.

thanks though
