So I'm currently working on an animated crack simulation but am not getting the detail I want yet.

Try resampling your line to create more points then run that through a noise deforming VOP, or VEX. Turn up the Roughness or Turbulence on the noise, also try raising the frequency as well.
Have you looked at the l-system crack preset?

you have almost there, maybe you can add some light in the dark area. Using light or shading.
