I just don't understand why this SOP is not working.
I have a NURBS grid SOP, and NURBS Curve SOP.
The NURBS surface is piped into 1st input of CurveClay, the Curve into 2nd. Just like it sas in the help pop-up. Yet, every time, as soon as curve is piped into 2nd slot, CurveClay SOP turns red. It just doesn't seem to work.

If you middle click the red flag, it complains that you don't have a profile in your input geometry. The curve clay sop takes either:

1 input: Deform the profile curve according to the transform specified.
2 inputs: Deform the profile curve on the first input to the 3d curve specified on the THIRD input.
3 inputs: Deform the area of the surface close to the 3d curve in the second input to towards the 3d curve on the third input.

Thus, you need to have a deformed version of your curve for the 3rd input.

You should also check the projection axis of the curveclay sop as its default (z) is incompatible with the default orientation of grids (which lie on the xz plane).

Thank you. I am sorry though, I absolutely do not understand your reply. Completely clueless. Makes no sence to me whatsoever.
I have a surface and I have a curve. Now, how do I deform the surface with the curve?

Hi David,

Do you remember asking how to trim Nurbs Surfaces?

CurveClay is very similar, you use a Project SOP to project the Curve onto the Nurbs Surface then you use the Distance parameter of the CurveClay SOP to displace the Nurbs Surface.

First, get a Circle SOP & a Grid SOP, both Nurbs. Next, use a Project SOP to project the circle onto the grid then append a CurveClay to the Project SOP and adjust the Distance Parameter for hours of fun!

If you would like to animate the curve, branch append* a Transform SOP to the Circle SOP & then pipe the output of the Transform SOP to the third input of the CurveClay. In this setup, you'll use the Transform SOP to control the displacement.

I hope the above helps!

Cheers!
steven

* Middle-Click on the output of the Circle SOP in the network pane or hold down Shift while selecting the Operation in the viewport.
