The thing that amazes me most in Houdini community is interaction. So why not sharing the ideas, someone will hopefully like it too

The personal rules had to be defined beforewards. As I understood, while we`re literally within the assignment, creativity is only supported.

So my project will be about:

Abandoned tree city. Because some tree species are extremely tall for some reason. Why not for architecture? May be that it`s a childhood dream of a tree house, where adults don`t see you. Who knows. (images below found in Pinterest)

Architecture itself will be in constructivism/organic/futuristic styles. Long story short: concrete, curved shapes, nostalgic feelings.

The first idea was to create ar-deco constructions. BUT.
1. I`m a huge style fan, so it has to be a big project to pay huuuuuuuge attention to details. Not the case now.
2. I believe selected point of view is more extreme, so may work brighter in the end
3. It seems like it`s not only me who gets some abandoned feeling from the look of these concrete constructions. Robotic future, automation, UFO, Clifform Simak, Strugatsky, all this.
They ARRIVED, but settled on trees. And they HAD the reasons to never touch the ground...

For environment it was chosen to make concrete "pucks" on the trees.
The first inspiration - Torres Blancas - Francisco Javier Saenz de Oiza

The second one - Frank Lloyd Wright

In the end there will be 2 significant elements:
1. Concrete constructions on trees in 3-4 levels (nests)
2. Many (really!!!) bridges between them in different levels. Probably too much to get visual "net" effect

Trees will be kinda mediterranean pines to have branches on top only. (spoiler alert: it didn`t help)

Coming to the more realistic images

Generated a system with 3 types of blocks and random distribution on "trees" tops. Most likely to get beautiful result we`ll have to place blocks manually. But for now as a base for bridges generation works fine.

Hey! Skywoods are alive! Even though still don’t look awesome.

What’s good:
Managed to build kinda playable level in unreal. Interactive at least. We can walk, go up and down the stairs and paths. Functioning! Awesome! Made it myself! Can imagine treasures spawning on random levels and the character getting the most of them. Don’t know why you guys came into 3d, but it managed to surprise me again.

What’s bad: I don’t like the look. Still love the concept and the idea. But. Have to get further from CandyCorn. Or really inside it. God blessed, looks like Unreal has wonderful post process.

What’s even worse: tired and a bit disappointed. I know that there’s huge amount of work done. There are things I love in this project. How to make it look like a nice sweet dream?

Any comments/reactions/personal letters are welcomed. Really welcomed and probably granted. Talk to an artist please ))))
