Hi all,

Im trying to make a simple scene render faster. Its literally a simple test geometry with a dome light and a cube (hip file attached). Im basically trying to get more used to KArma's sampling and just day-to-day simple workflows.

- Is there a way to zoom 1:1 when using the image view (setView->Image Viewport ?

- Are there hotkeys for viewing the various render planes ? (ie: shift pageup-pagedown? ) Can I assign this if not ?

- Same for render pause/restart ? Im not sure I understand the pause action though. when in ImageView viewport, I pause the render and try to pan the image around ,and yet the renderer starts again. Is there some other workflow for which pause render is intended for?

- Is there a way to visualize sampling somehow (as an aov, etc?). This would be helpful to debug variance, min sampling, etc…

- Is there a way to control direct/indirect sampling? Actually, is there a way to control sampling per bxdf ?

- Im finding different sampling results when rendering with a Karma ROP to Mplay, compared to viewing the same karma rop in the scene-viewer->ImageView Viewport (same resolution). Moreover, somehow one renders in 48 seconds, and the sceneView one stops short of 8 seconds. The render settings (ie: hotkey ‘d’) are the same as the ones I have on that Karma Rop (all defaults btw). Is there something Im missing here? Screenshot attached.

- This image renders in about 1minute and 15 seconds, on a ryzen 3900x (12 core, 24 threads). Seems very slow to me. Am I missing something ? Doing a quick test in renderman with similar sampling (different algorythm but still) results in a similar result at about 15 secs. same items, and lighting.. Screenshot attached. I understand its different renderers, I just want to ensure Im not doing something silly on the karma side.

- Is there a way to render ‘progressively’ in mplay? As we wait for a renderView implementation is mplay an alternative? Right now when I render to mplay, I have to wait for the image to be finished before it pops up.

- When I hit render To mplay, the viewport starts re-rendering too. Is this something that can be stopped? Ideally I want all the resources to go to the render, and not have to be splitting with the viewport updating.

I don't see much in terms of sampling strategy documentation, is there any available as a resource somewhere online ?

Phew! Lots of questions! if anyone ahs any clue on any of the above, let me know. Thanks in advance!

First Screenshot shows differences between mplay and viewport (imageView) sampling and rendertimes are quite different.
Second Screenshot shows a quick renderman render at 15 seconds vs 1.24minutes.
