does more memory make a noticeable difference?

I've recently had a DIMM go bad on my Dell Precision 7400 (Xeon Quad Core 2.8ghz Nvidia Quadro FX3800) and am thinking about upgrading my memory.

For $800 I can go from 16gb to 32gb. I'm mostly using Houdini for rigid body simulations and rendering.

Can anyone comment on whether or not I would see a notable difference? I know it's a subjective thing but I'm a noob to Houdini and would love some general guidance.

Thanks!

The more Ram the better for simulations !

More is always better. It seems the price of the 8GB modules are pretty much free-falling atm tho. A month ago 4x8GB was around 3000 SEK in Sweden and now it's down to 2200 SEK.
