Trouble with Icons on Startup

Hello, I'm trying to get myself familiar with all the new gadgets in H9, but I'm having a strange problem on startup.
Houdini takes about 5 minutes to startup, it appears because it is creating the icons everytime. I know this is supposed to happen on your first startup, but I can't get it to stop. Any suggestions how I could correct this?

I'm running H9.0.828 on XP and an ATI card. I installed to C:\Houdini9\
I've tried launching from different locations, by command prompt, but no luck.
I can see hsvg running on startup and the icons being made in my temp folder.

Thanks in advance,

Do you see a directory called “houdini9.0” in your My Documents folder (I think)? First step would be to delete that directory and relaunch Houdini. If that doesn't fix things, we'll need to do some more debugging.

Hello again,

I deleted the houdini 9.0 folder in My Documents, and started up houdini and then tried again. I'm afraid with the same results. If it helps, the error message from the console window is:

libpng error: Not a PNG file

I'm wondering if it could have anything to do with me needing to set up some environment variables?

You definitely don't need to set environment variables.

However, if you've got some set for some other reason, it might cause problems. Do you have any set?

Only $TEMP and $JOB. That's it.

If I tried re-installing, where is the best place to put Houdini? Is it okay to install it into Program Files, or is directly under C: better? ( It's currently under C
