interesting. it's true that mantra feels more robust than mray,
the only drawback to me is how convoluted things are with building shaders
in houdini vs the xsi render tree.
though i'm curious as to why you would go with mantra
and not arnold for heavy raytracing/gi work.
i'm sure you guys have used it at least for testing purposes,
since you use xsi almost exclusively for rigging/animation.
if nda's allow for at least a personal opinion…

very nice looking renders. the roses stand out.
also, u got me curious. how are you and the embassy guys
using houdini? i thought it was mostly for vfx work, but i see
ur pushing mantra all the way. r u planning to move towards
a more houdini centric pipe?

obj sequence is your friend.
for export use a rop output driver.
for import into xsi try http://rray.de/xsi/. [rray.de]
there should be a couple of tools in there.

had a similar issue on windows.
if u have a nvidia card, might be driver related.
try to update to a newer version and see if the problem
persists.

i get the exact same thing happening under windows.
no icons, unusable ui, slow as hell
tried everything..including going through all the possible display driver combinations. running on a geforce9800…
any ideas?
PS> getting rid of hsvg solves the viewport speed issue.
so its got something to do with that, but of course, there are no icons without it. i remember i didnt have any issues with previous houdini releases.
