Hallo,
I´m not doing visual Effects. I´m a sculptor and using mainly Rhino together with Grasshopper. So: My purposes are lesser visualisation and
much more production of concrete sculptural objects.
Since about 5 month I´m studiously training Houdini (apprentice).
I assume that it can enrich my form finding process a lot!
Of course I know that Houdini is no CAD software like Rhino. It´s
not made for PRODUKTION.
To keep things short: I rely on some kind of communication or
data-exchange mainly from Houdini to Grasshopper.
I don´t think that it is necessary to export very complex geometries from Houdini to grasshopper. I´m shure some Particles, some Points, some Normals, some Attributes should be enough information to keep on working in grasshopper.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!BUT I HAVE REALLY NO IDEA HOW TO DO THAT!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would be nice If somebody could help me!
Greetings: Nils
PS: there is an interesting topic at the forum that deals a bit with that topic. it s called “”Is there any architects here"

thanks for quick answering!
yes it´s possible to export via “save geometry” !
FBX ROP isn´t available in Apprentice!
the problem with “save gometry” is that it seems to save only "pure geometry!
For working Grasshopper it´s VERY usefull to have informations like numbers and position of primitives, vertices, points and particles.
there is a possibility in grasshopper to grab information from excel-spreadsheeds.
As far as I can evaluate Houdini from my beginners point of view,
Houdini gives you a great ability to acces ALL KIND of data.
If I could write specific data out into an excel spredsheed it might be a way
to solve my problem!

Just saw this discussion.
I have written a python sop to write attributes to file
It is here - http://files.patrick.janssen.name/2011a/phtj_utils.otl [files.patrick.janssen.name]
For updates on other nodes (mostly related to architecture), please follow the blog - http://patrickjanssenstudio.blogspot.com [patrickjanssenstudio.blogspot.com]
