Hidey ho! Just wanted to let you know that ATI's 8.44 driver (released Dec.20) fixes the selection delay bug that made things really slow in Houdini (on windows) when selecting in the viewport. (Depending on how complex your scene was, the delay could be anywhere from 10sec - 30 sec or more.)
Anyhoo, it's fixed now. Thanks ATI!
You can grab the driver from www.amd.com
EDIT: windows driver

Thanks, I can actually see my icons now!
I've had nothing but trouble with my FIreGL v3100 in XP 32, but steadily over the last 3 driver revisions things have got progressively better.
Everything looks great now though. The only strange thing is this message in the console when I start Houdini.
Unable to link glConvolutionFilter1D
Unable to link glHistogram

I am getting that same mini-network-pane problem as Alan .. not all the time but say every 15 minutes.. i think its only since i installed the updated driver.
the performance with the updated driver is amazing though.. i wonder whether many of the H9 speed issues are video driver related?
I noticed it was really fast as well. It's a shame about the network pane honestly.
I e-mailed ATI's support and they just copy + pasted some rubbish about how to RMA my video card, so I'm not too confident they'll fix this.

I get the same network refresh issue on my dual xeon (winXP home) with ati radeon x700 series card.
I have tried turning all the of options in the ati software on and off …the only option seems to be to use software ogl …(HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE 1) this happens every time i try to drag select a node in the scene view and can be fixed by resizing the main gui window….until the next time that i drag select a node!
Any one have suggestions Please (apart from by nvidia)

The latest ATI (Vista32) driver 8.1, released 01/13/08, did not fix my mini nework pane problem. I fixed the ATI mini network pane problem on my PC by disabling the +“ATI External Event Utility” services.
1. Open windows task manager
2. click services tab.
3. Click the “services…” button on lower right.
4. locate the “ATI External Event Utility” in the services window. Make sure your not in the task manager services tab window(see step 3).
5. Right click on the service and select “properties”.
6. in the properties options - disable the service.
I've noticed several other similar redraw “bugs” disappear from other applications, since I've disabled the “ATI External Event Utility”.
*** Update ***
After installing the latest beta version of houdini, My mini network pane problem came back. Even with the “ATI” External Event utility" disabled. I fixed the problem once again by reverting to an earlier ATI Driver build.
