Hello
Long time Softimage user here taking my first steps into Houdini. First impressions, GOOD.
One of my favourite things about Softimage ICE is the strands framework. Is there an equivalent in Houdini? I'm guessing L-Systems are a good place to start?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Oh sorry, of course. A little bit presumptuous of me to assume everyone knows about ICE strands. ops:
Strands in Softimage are lines of particles used to create solid looking flexible objects like ribbons, plants or hair. They are also used for light trails and MoGraph type effects. They are basically solid shapes that are made up from continuous segments dictated by whatever shape the particle is.
I have included some examples:

I think there's many ways to do those type of effects in Houdini. Here's a quick test.
Speaking of curves and particles, this has been my favourite video that uses Houdini for the past 9 months or so: http://vimeo.com/65475425 [vimeo.com]

Wow, what a response. Thank you very much edward and Joker386 you are very generous. Great community you have going here.
As usual I see Houdini has many ways to get the job done. I'll take a look. Can't wait to get stuck in.
