Hi guys, i'm trying ti install houdini apprentice on FC4 and am having a few issues with the install. Houdini installed perfectly but after I initalised the h enviroment and tried to run hkey i recieved-

# hkey
hkey: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I then installed the missing libstdc++.so.5 rpm and tried again. This time i recieved

# hkey
hkey: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/dsolib/libHoudiniUT.so: cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied

Any idea whats wrong?

Just one last problem. All installed, hkey running and obtained apprentice lics no problem. Houdini launches, but the shell is returning multiple errors regarding permissions (listed below) do you have any idea why?

regarding running Mathmatica in an SE(security enhanced) Linux environment, plus a potential solution, if you translate over to the houdini distribution. However, I'm quite surprised this happens, and I would put it down to an incorrect distribution being installed, improper installation, or possibly a daily build with an oops in it.

Which release did you snag? It's possible FC4 isn't officially supported yet, I suppose. You might want to try the Mathematica fix, applied to the hfs directory, keeping in mind you might cause other problems. However, the Houdini distribution is neat and self-contained - everything(apart from licensing and personal configuration) is kept in the install directory(usually /opt/hfs8.0.xxx). You can always reinstall, and you can't bust up your OS as long as you stick to there.

Interesting development. Haven't seen it on SUSE or the other Redhat AFAIK.

In other words, apply chcon likewise to all .so files for which you encounter this error. I should be clear that FC4 isn't officially supported from the download page.

i can't get houdini to work on my fedora core 4 ..
Could you please mention what built and version do you use ?
i disabled my SELinux and al the access denied errors are gone but i am still getting this“ Unable to find hserver ..blah blah”.
