Controlling explosion direction and brightness Oct. 31, 2012, 4:20 p.m.

I'm experimenting with the Pyro FX explosion tool in order to achieve an explosion that expands rapidly towards the camera on the Z axis.

I've tried using the wind field as well as buoyancy direction both in Z to try and control the direct the fire is expanding, but I'm sure there must be an easier way to do this? I want the fire to swirl and roll and generally be more streaky than what I have at the moment, which is one big blob. Something like the last clip of this video:

Lastly, I'm having a problem where the temperature gets too hot to the point where the fire is just one huge white blob with no noise or breakup, I've tried lowering the temperature output and the gas released, but it doesn't really help.

If anyone could have a look and point me in the right direction, that'd be great.

Houdini 12 Pyro FX - Looking for Source Apply node in SOPs Oct. 31, 2012, 1:30 p.m.

Thanks for those tutorials by Peter Quint. They were very helpful and exactly what I was looking for.

Here's hoping there are some more tutorials for Pyro 2.0 coming soon.

Houdini 12 Pyro FX - Looking for Source Apply node in SOPs Oct. 31, 2012, 9:08 a.m.

Hi all,

I'm following the PyroFX tutorials on the website, but it seems to be for an older version of Houdini, and the only version I have access to is Houdini 12.

I understand that in Houdini 12 they moved some things around from DOPs to SOPs in the Pyro tools. I'm looking to change the attributes previously found in the source_apply node in the autodopnetwork. I've looked around in the geometry node of the object (in this case a sphere) and the import_pyro_build node, but haven't had any luck.

I have searched about this issue and while it was explained that the source_apply node has been hidden and the attributes are elsewhere, I am unable to find an answer as to exactly where the attributes for the source relationship are.

Also wondering if there are any decent tutorials out there teaching Pyro FX 2.0?

Cheers,

James
