Hi guys,
Noob question here:

I am trying to map a sphere in Houdini with an spherical HDRI texture. Is there a way that I can get rid of the stretching at poles?

In blender everything looks nice and easy with the same texture applied on a sphere:

Thank you.

If you use cylindrical projection it'll be stretched. The correct way to UV unwarp a sphere for an equirectangular texture is like this:

What's does the wireframe look like in the Blender version?

It was the exact same sphere in blender.

After some testing it appears to be a viewport display problem. If I render the sphere, everything looks as it should.
Maybe its a bug or something with this version of Houdini. 20.5.445

Thank you guys.

Don’t rely on the Houdini viewport, compared to other 3d apps it’s buggy and outdated to put it mildly.

Yeah, I honestly have never seen a 3D package whose viewport is as unreliable as Houdini's (while people are making Oscar-winning film with Blender EEVEE...)
