you can open it with the image viewer and simply save it as .rat

Yep:
icp myimage.tiff myimage.rat
is probably the simplest way to do it, assuming you have a decent shell available. Otherwise, load it in mplay, then use File->Save As to save it as “myimage.rat”.
ps - Halo is the compositor (COPs) which would be the most involved way to do it (workflow-wise) but would work well for many tiff->rat conversions.

Hi, there are two rat formats at mplay: rat and mip map rat. Is the simple rat also pyramidal as mip map rat? Or there are some other reasons between this two formats?
