I am looking forward to understanding how I can achieve a result similar to the above shared video in Houdini?

Hi everyone! I asked about this earlier but didn’t get any responses, so I thought I’d try again.

Does anyone know how to recreate this kind of timecode-driven lighting effect in Houdini, similar to what’s shown in this video(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sicHNdE-U5o&list=RDkYnRKOgZulU&index=3) I’m particularly interested in how the lights are animated across the patterns, with the changing colours and movement.

Any tutorials, tips, or guidance on the right approach would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I stumbled my way through setting up a basic example because I barely know what I'm doing.
But it basically breaks down to: animate some attributes on points, instance lights on those points, use attribute to control lights.

In the attached example I just used cops to make a basic animation. If you have an animated image sequence, that could be used too.

Go into the lopnet and fire up a viewport render and click through the frames to see it working. Hope it helps, sorry it's not the greatest.

Though your file worked great, I’m still quite new to Houdini, so I’d really appreciate some guidance.

If I wanted to create a different type of animation instead of the torus-like movement—for example, an inside-out movement, a stepping pattern, floor-based lighting movement, or continuously generated RGB colors that could be either synchronized or random—how would I go about achieving that?

In other words, I’m looking for something that isn’t limited to spherical or dot-based movement. I’d like to explore more abstract, directional, procedural, or floor-oriented animation patterns.

Also, I’m getting the following error in the Vulkan viewport. Could someone help me troubleshoot it and suggest ways to optimize the setup for Vulkan? My system has an 8 GB GPU and 64 GB of RAM.

Any advice on both the animation approach and Vulkan optimisation would be greatly appreciated.

Well, there are a bazillion ways to animate attributes in Houdini and I would say that knowing how to wrangle attributes is a foundational skill. I'm not sure where you're at in your learning but if something like randomizing color has got you stumped then I'd spend some time just going through any SOP based tutorials you can find. If you're already comfortable managing attributes and just need help with the logic then you might find watching some motion design tutorials helpful or trying something like the MOPs toolset.

No idea about the Vulkan error, best to contact support if it's tripping you up.
