In the File browser there used to be a way to turn off the $JOB stuff in the path. Is there a way to make it default that the browser does not try to use a variable in the path? I know that it can be very convenient to use variables, however we are just not setup for that here at work.

Do you mean the way $JOB gets substituted into pathnames?
There's a high SEV RFE open on that one…
