Hi

This is probably a real stupid question but can somebody please explain to me the difference(s) (if any) between mantra and vmantra. I hitched the train with version 5.5 so i'm not sure if this is some old feature just tagging along.

Can't seem to find anything in the docs either
Thanks

Hey there,

They are both one and the same -> vmantra is mantra and vice versa.

You might notice there is an omantra which is the previous Houdini renderer. It is also known as
mantra3

I hope that clears things up.

Cheers!

As a matter of fact. There is a small distinction: while we refer to the same engine and/or executable mantra, meaning the Houdini renderer as opposed to rman (RenderMan) or mray (mental ray), in Houdini UI runtime parlance we refer to mantra as render(er|ing) without VEX shaders taken into account, and obviously to vmantra with VEX shaders.
