I read on an sgi board that houdini7 would be the last version to come out on irix? Is this true?

Depends on which of the animation houses, (post-)production companies etc. still use SGI hardware and (IRIX) software. I don't think many do nowadays.

I don't believe there's been any announcement made one way or the other yet.

Even if it was true, that means you'll still have Houdini on IRIX for a couple of years yet.

I'm not sure if this has been brought to the attention earlier yet:
"SGI:
As of Houdini 7, IRIX is no longer a supported system for running Houdini. [sidefx.com]"

MG is correct. Side Effects as of Houdini 7 no longer support IRIX.

FYI, the biggest impact on users has been moving Houdini license servers off SGI.
