you could do that with any kind of film editing software like Adobe Premiere or apple's Final Cut Pro, even with After Effects or Nuke, i.e., but I'm sure there are some free apps out there that could do the job for you as well !

I am beginner in cgi.
Can you help me further ?
Would you please post an example file or short movie showing me the step by step procedure?
I'd appreciate it.
I do have CS4 premiere.
Thank you very much in advance.

I have an mpeg-4 movie to be converted to frames.
But it's too big size to attach in the forum.
I need that to use it as a back ground of my animated obj using houdini
Thanks
Steve

I would start by reading the help for for Adobe premiere. It must have a section on outputting your edit.
