Hi there,
Following up on an old thread. I was told with Houdini 14 it will be possible to move the preference folders to another location. So in “my documents” I have 3 Houdini preference folders:
.config
.hbrowser
houdini14.0
What should I do to move these 3 folders to another location?
Thanks !!

Thanks Pezekto
But if I understand correctly, I must edit this file:
“C:\Users\%username%\Documents\houdini14.0\houdini.env”
In this file I must set :
HOUDINI_USER_PREF_DIR = “c:\new\path\houdini.env”
And then copy the folders to the new location…
But then how will Houdini know the new location of houdini.env?
And what about the 2 others folder :
.config
.hbrowser
?
Thanks
Gz

You can also set environment variable on your operating system instead of houdini.env.

Hi,
I've just tried using this new variable, “HOUDINI_USER_PREF_DIR”. In Linux, I've added this environment variable to point to a new location. However, if my $HOME/houdini14.0 folder still exists, Houdini seems to read from that folder first anyways, even though changing my preferences will write to the new location.
Is this a bug?

hello there,
In Windows 10 it seems to work. I have added the environment variable and also added this line inside houdini.env, and so far so good. Now my 3 prefs folders are inside appdata\roaming\sidfx\… and they didn't popped up in my documents folder, so far so good
