Just out of interest from another thread on this board, what firms are using houdini currently in Canada ?.

C.O.R.E would probably be the main one, as their pipeline is solidly based on houdini

Its a good list, do people ever think houdini is going to get a wider appeal. I noted the list had animal logic down. I worked there and didnt know they used it .

if the amount of learning content popping up is any indication of Houdini's popularity I would think it could be getting more popular. In the short time I've been learning Houdini there has been like 3 more video tutorials and a book, which definatly made it more inviting to me anyway.
I don't however like the idea of Maya-i-zation to gain wider appeal that I've heard the next release might have, if I wanted a easy-to-use application I'd stick with 3ds Max .. I hope they don't make the strange areas like CHOPs, COPs, spatial audio any different, they are very unique to Houdini which is why I'm drawn to it.

I don't think they will drastically change the way Houdini works, just maybe add tools on top to make it easier to use. They have to leave all the power there otherwise they will be strung up by the core users…

I think the idea is to present new(er) users with something that is a bit more inviting/less intimidating…and with a slightly less arcane workflow

Of course when I say “core” users I mean ones who have been using it forever, not the company itself. I'm sure everyone at Core is a pacifist and would never string anyone up. Live long and prosper!

We have a little list: http://odforce.net/wiki/index.php/CompaniesUsingHoudini [odforce.net]
Feel free to amend!
I tried, but it's a locked page. CIS Hollywood also has a few copies of Houdini, as used on Poseidon.

You have to be added to the editors list by the admins whom you know. I added CIS Hollywood to the list.
Cheers!
