error message in houdini console NT_GeneratorThread::queueEvent eventqueuefull.Event dropped
said to Tell Houdini to use software OpenGL rather than hardware OpenGL. This is done by setting an environment variable:

HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE = 1

how do i do this?

Start->Control Panel->System->Advanced Tab->Environment Variable.
