Hi Guys,
Since ma update to Nvidia driver 591.74 and I guess windows update just few days before, i can't get off this hard crash on Windows 11..
I get back to some previous Nvidia version and even if It seems to be less frequent, i still get hard crashs..

Any hint about windows tweek maybe, would be helpfull.

Thank you.
EbenF
i had the same problem. I rolled back to 581.57 just after use DDU to clean unstall 59x.x version.
It work fine now.
cheers,

Hi Ebenfred,
I will give a try, thank you

Do you get thread exception error? I started to get it last week, not sure if related. I have to restart the computer each time.
Hip-Freak
Hi @heileif,
Do you mean in Houdini log or in windows log?
I will take a look if I get something similar
protozoan
Rolling back seems to be the official way, see this announcement thread for reference:

Hi Protozoan,
saw it this week, my rollback didn't resolve the issues.. I expect something in Windows 11 update's side..

Windows error. Suppose I have a different issue then :/

Hi Heileif,
if you're on Win11 with and you get the update on 14th jan 2026, it could be related too..

I have removed the 14th jan update, and rollback on the Nvidia driver. Been stable for around 1 hour now of rendering

You're luckier than me
Windows can't let me get back before 14th.. It has no save point..

I removed if from the Windows Update window.

Windows Update>Update history>Uninstall updates.

I removed the windows update and now is no longer crashing. Also paused the updates, but how am I suppose to manage this? Just dont update windows? That's not safe I guess. How are you guys handling this? Thank you.

I desinstalled the january windows update and all is fine too. I guess Microsoft will come back with a fix because this did a lot of noise in the web...

Wait and see.

Well, Microsoft came back with the fix (KB5078127). And I managed to render for a couple of hours, and then... BSOD again! What the actual f, Microslop. Now unrolling both of the updates.

An update (KB5074105) (26200.7705) arrived this morning.
I've been working on XPU all day, and it seems to be running smoothly.

there's defintely something very wrong with either win11 updates (and sadly something propagated to win10 too!) , and/or nvidia 590 drivers. I'm having cold reboots (on win10!!) all of a sudden. Tried ddu and revert to 58x , and now it's the same s...fest. Also on linux with 21 (and nvidia 58x) , karma start to render and immediately gives a crash report. 20.5 is okay.

We are on a mixed windows 10 & 11 environment. We have tested with both 21.0.512 and 21.0.596. We have unistalled all January Windows updates and rolled drivers back to 581.57. We are getting consistent farm crashes using Deadline, submitting via hython whether we submit sims or Karma renders. We get no unusual crashing during interactive artist useage. Houdini 20.5 was very stable, no issues. Can someone from SideFX please weigh in on this? Or I can submit an official bug ticket if that's preferred.

I still have crashes with or without the updates. I've been rendering (after removing the update and pausing it) for several hours without any problems. But it started again when I worked on another scene days later without any changes to the system. Not having crashes is probably not indicative for anything

There's an action that reliably causes a crash on my system after a few moments, so maybe you can use it to check whether the issue persists: launch Houdini, start Karma XPU (an empty scene is fine), and then switch quickly and repeatedly between Work Lights and Scene Lights. After a few switches, it crashes.
