Hi,
we still have some rendermachines which use conventional harddisks instead of ssd's. Since we rendered with Arnold this was never a problem, but now with Karma we see a huge slowdown in our renderings. The rendering can take about 3h (inclusive rat file generation) compared to 10 minutes on a ssd. Since we'd like to avoid (if possible) the investment of buying a lot of ssd's and put them into the machines, I'd like to know if there are some options I could try to speed up the texture file usage, e.g. would it be useful to convert all files to mipmapped exr file or are there any OIIO options which could help. I appreciate any helpful infos.

Thanks

If you're on 21.0.547 or newer, please try setting environment variable `KARMA_BSDF_OPTIMIZED_MIP` to 1. This can significantly reduce file access on mipmapped textures.

Thanks I'll try it... and oh yes, that's very much better. Great!
