Day 20: Space

hey guys.
I started making a displacement map in cops for the foreground, but opted for a procedural model approach as it was more controllable.

To me, nothing says “space” so much as a Chesley Bonestell style moonscape…

Got a lot further with heightfields today. This one is almost doing what I wanted it to do! I built the Saturn model, but used the nice texture maps provided by James Hastings-Trew at http://planetpixelemporium.com/saturn.html. [planetpixelemporium.com] The rocket is a curve primitive artifact, which let me mimic the sleek lines of golden age space hardware. The stars… Well, let's just say that the Scatter SOP has been getting a workout lately!

Hi everyone! For the topic of space I decided to do a fully textured and scale/speed accurate version of our solar system(with the exception of the sun)! The planets can have offseted rotations from the sun and rotation speed can be controlled using a multiplier for better artistic control

My artistic take of “Earthrise” from lunar orbit during the Apollo 8 mission. The original was taken on December 24, 1968 and is one of my favorite photos in space. We are all living together on that small blue marble.
