I have finally decided to leave Redshift and start learning Material X/Karma.
However I keep getting stuck on what seems so simple with other render engines.

Right now I would just like to import a MTLX file to use on an object.

I have researched and I came across a thread that Houdini comes shipped with some Material X presets. I have found them in the Houdini folder, but how do I get them in my file and on my object?

Thank you, I have a follow up question if you don't mind.

I started learning Houdini about a year ago and I am still trying to wrap my head around everything. I was really hoping not to learn Solaris and render the "old fashioned" Houdini way, just dropping down a Render node on the out context. Do you recommend also learning Solaris? I was hoping to put that off for as long as I could.

Im a solo freelancer and I feel Solaris is just another added step in the pipeline. I feel its more for large scale projects. Am I wrong about this?

Hi, I too cant find a way to import a premade MaterialX shader. I have downloaded some shaders online, and I followed a recommended link to the SideFX site, but, I am truly lost . I'm on H20, is it possible for someone to spell out for me a simple break down of the steps needed,? I'm a solo guy, thank you-I figure if I can deconstruct existing materials, it will help me to create my own, thank you, Craig

I too can't get it to work.

I downloaded the file from openPBR
https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/OpenPBR [github.com]

It contains some openPBR examples in .mtlx format. I used the sublayer node to load the file but using assign material node to assign that material into an object. But it doesn't seem to do anything. Neither with edit material properties node nor edit material node.
