Hello everyone, I wanted to share some of the progress I've been making with a robotic character I'm modeling right inside Houdini using the Modeler plugin.

Some bit of history.
Way back in the day, I learned to model rudimentarily in Maya. Then, I switched to Cinema4D as a general tool. Along the way, I felt a void in the modeling department, and that's when I discovered Modo. Modo is the app that really allowed me to learn how to model using SDS. This all happened in the best part of a decade. Fast forward to recent times, and I decided to completely switch to Houdini (about 3 years ago) and drop everything else to reduce costs and focus on my favorite workflow, which is Node-based. I would have started modeling in Blender if not for the existence of Modeler, but luckily I was able to do everything within a single program.

Objective of the stream.
My main objective is to improve my modeling/design skills in Houdini and really take advantage of Modeler. You can see me discovering and practicing tools as I go.

Also, I aim to improve my English while streaming.

Once the model is done, I plan on recording a comprehensive tutorial/walk-through, going over the whole process. I understand that watching the raw process can be boring at best.

Another plus for me is having an in-house production model to tackle another challenge, and that is mechanical rigging. I've been learning KineFX since its release, but not being a trained rigger, the process has been slow but very gratifying. There is also the milestone of porting the rig to Apex down the line.

Lastly here is a link [youtube.com] to the playlist where I'm uploading all the recorded sessions to.

I've already done some R&D on the rigging for the hand. It is based on Captured Packed, so the geometry stays packed, and the performance is great as a result.

Here is another R&D of a Mechanical Arm with multiple joints and multiple axial constraints. I just wanted to say the Configure Joint node is a godsend for this kind of work; otherwise, it would have been impossible for me to do it.

The first real session of the year ended up taking a massive tangent, resulting in the creation of a drone partner for the robot. Additionally, I made improvements to the hip, spine, and defined the thigh section a bit more.

Some of today's progress, I'm still figuring out the joints for the Hip.

Last stream was really fun, I had the chance to answer a bunch of questions and do a lot of progress on the hip.
