Hi all.
It is possible to save the ramps generated by the ramp editor standalone app in another format different that .ramp? Any image format?
How can i use a .ramp file? can i convert a .ramp file to an image format?
And of course, Houdini needs more intuitive ramps editors for VOPs and SOPs.

Thanks
Un saludo

I think you can use the iramp program. Otherwise, I think you can also supply an .ramp file anywhere a texture map is accepted. (eg. background texture in the viewport). It doesn't seem like the File COP supports it though without you adding the appropriate command line converter in $HH/FBio.

Thanks edward, you are right, is possible to use a .ramp file everywhere you put a image file. The only problem is that the File Open dialog doesn't show the .ramp files, you have to go to the directory where it is and then type the name in the File Open dialog.
Is a little annyoing.
The other workflow problem is how to launch the ramp editor directly from houdini. My idea is to add a option to the popup menu that is opened when you RMB on a parameter label or field and calls to an expression function that receives the file name like a parameter and launch the ramp editor to edit the .ramp file.
It is possible to do?
Can i add entries to this menu?
Another possibility would be to edit the viewer used by the File Open dialog to preview the image file (the eye buttom at the bottom-right), and calls to redit when needed.
It is possible?

Thanks
Un saludo

The “eye” button does work for .ramp files (eg. if you type in the correct filename). The problem I think is that the File Open dialog for textures is ignoring that extension.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before but it seems like what you're trying to do is something like what Maya can do with ramps (really cool, IMO, lookups)…
I think it would be a nice addition to have this kind of functionality in Houdini

http://www.visualparadigms.com/ [visualparadigms.com]

Carlos Lemus wrote this a while back. Should be downloadable somewhere from there, if not the SESI Exchange.

Cheers,

J.C.

Hmm, that site seems like it's not maintained. Maybe Carlos is around?

Yes edward the eye button can display a .ramp file, the problem is related to the file dialog, it don't recognize a .ramp file like a texture.
And yes, some time ago at http://www.visualparadigms.com/ [visualparadigms.com] there was a ramp VOP, but now visual paradigms doesn't have the download section and the VOP is dated.
If Carlos Lemus can upload the code a new version for H8 to the exchange would be great.
In the other hand, anybody knows how to add entries to the pop menu tha is launched when ones RMB on a parameter label or field, is the menu that allows you to copy/paste parameters, set keyframes, etc …
Un saludo
